Kashmir, July 28,2026-The Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police, in coordination with multiple security agencies, conducted a comprehensive joint mock security exercise near a designated pilgrimage Langar (community kitchen) along National Highway-44 (NH-44) at Jakhani in Udhampur district to assess preparedness and strengthen emergency response mechanisms.
The tactical drill brought together personnel from the Indian Army, Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) and other security and emergency response agencies. The exercise was conducted under the supervision of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Barleen Kaur, SOG Udhampur.
The mock exercise simulated emergency scenarios that could arise along the pilgrimage route, enabling participating agencies to evaluate their operational readiness, inter-agency coordination, communication systems, evacuation procedures and rapid response capabilities.
During the exercise, specialised teams rehearsed coordinated responses to simulated security threats, including area sanitisation, crowd management, bomb detection and disposal, casualty evacuation, medical assistance and disaster response. The drill also tested the efficiency of command-and-control mechanisms and the seamless coordination among various security forces deployed along the national highway.
Officials said such exercises are crucial for identifying operational gaps, refining standard operating procedures (SOPs) and ensuring that all agencies remain fully prepared to respond effectively to any contingency during major pilgrimage movements and other high-footfall events.
The participation of multiple security and disaster response agencies demonstrated the importance of integrated planning and coordinated action in safeguarding pilgrims and maintaining public safety along the strategic NH-44 corridor.
Regular mock drills of this nature play a vital role in enhancing preparedness, improving response time and ensuring that security personnel are equipped to handle emergencies with professionalism and efficiency.
