Kashmir,July 23,2026- In a significant boost to the local economy and the promotion of indigenous products, the Government has approved ₹255 crore for the establishment of two Unity Malls in Srinagar and Jammu. The initiative aims to provide a dedicated platform for local artisans, handloom weavers, handicraft makers, GI-tagged product producers, and regional entrepreneurs to showcase and market their products.
The Unity Malls are envisioned as one-stop destinations that will celebrate the rich cultural heritage and craftsmanship of Jammu and Kashmir while creating new economic opportunities for local businesses. The project is expected to strengthen market linkages, increase product visibility, and enhance income generation for thousands of artisans and entrepreneurs across the Union Territory.
The malls will feature a wide range of authentic regional products, including traditional handicrafts, handloom items, GI-tagged goods, and locally manufactured products. By providing modern retail infrastructure and improved marketing opportunities, the initiative seeks to connect local producers with domestic and international buyers.
The project is also expected to complement the tourism sector by offering visitors a dedicated space to explore and purchase authentic products from Jammu and Kashmir. Officials believe the initiative will contribute to employment generation, support small and medium enterprises, and encourage entrepreneurship, particularly among youth and women.
The approval of the ₹255 crore project reflects the government’s continued focus on strengthening the local economy through sustainable development, infrastructure creation, and the promotion of traditional industries.
