Kashmir Ahead

Over 5,200 pilgrims leave Jammu for Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra amid tight security

Jammu, July 16,2026- A fresh batch of more than 5,200 pilgrims departed from the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas base camp in Jammu on Wednesday to undertake the sacred Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, amid comprehensive security arrangements and smooth logistical support by the administration.

The pilgrims left in a convoy of escorted vehicles for the twin base camps of the holy cave shrine in the South Kashmir Himalayas—Nunwan (Pahalgam) in Anantnag district and Baltal in Ganderbal district. The annual pilgrimage to the naturally formed ice Shivling of Baba Barfani continues to witness an enthusiastic response from devotees arriving from across the country.

Authorities have put in place multi-layered security measures along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and the yatra routes to ensure the safety and convenience of pilgrims. Security personnel, traffic officials, disaster response teams, and medical staff have been deployed at strategic locations, while convoy movement is being closely monitored.

The Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board (SASB), in coordination with the Jammu and Kashmir administration, has made extensive arrangements, including accommodation, healthcare facilities, sanitation services, RFID-based tracking, and emergency response systems, to facilitate a safe and hassle-free pilgrimage.

The Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu continues to serve as the primary transit camp for pilgrims before they proceed towards the twin base camps. Thousands of devotees have already undertaken the pilgrimage this year, reflecting the deep spiritual significance of the annual yatra dedicated to Lord Shiva.

The ongoing Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra remains one of India’s largest religious pilgrimages, with authorities maintaining a high level of preparedness to ensure its peaceful and successful conduct.
