National fish farmers day 2026: Anantnag emerges as trout farming success story under HADP

Anantnag, July 11,2026- National Fish Farmers Day 2026 has brought the spotlight on Anantnag’s remarkable progress in trout farming, with the district emerging as a model for sustainable aquaculture under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP). The success story of local trout farmer Mohd Yousuf Rather reflects how government support and modern farming practices are transforming the fisheries sector and strengthening rural livelihoods.

With assistance under HADP, Mohd Yousuf Rather has established a modern trout farming unit that has significantly increased fish production while creating employment opportunities for local residents. The adoption of scientific aquaculture techniques and improved infrastructure has enabled the farm to enhance productivity and contribute to the growing demand for high-quality trout.

Officials said the initiative demonstrates the positive impact of government interventions aimed at promoting sustainable aquaculture, encouraging entrepreneurship, and improving farmers’ incomes. Trout farming has emerged as a promising economic activity in Jammu & Kashmir, particularly in districts like Anantnag, where favourable climatic conditions support fish cultivation.

The Holistic Agriculture Development Programme continues to provide financial and technical assistance to fish farmers, helping them adopt modern technologies, improve production efficiency, and expand market opportunities. Such initiatives are not only boosting the fisheries sector but are also generating employment and supporting inclusive rural development across the Union Territory.

The achievements celebrated on National Fish Farmers Day 2026 underscore the growing role of aquaculture in enhancing food security, promoting sustainable agriculture, and creating resilient rural economies in Jammu & Kashmir.
