BRO opens landmark Jambhir bridge in Rajouri, bringing all-weather connectivity to LoC villages

Rajouri, July 8,2026 In a major boost to border infrastructure and rural connectivity, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has opened the first-ever 60-metre permanent steel Jambhir Bridge over the Jambhir Nallah on the Rajpur NH-144 Link–Qila Dharhal–Lam Road in Rajouri district.

Constructed for the first time at this location since Independence, the bridge marks a significant milestone in improving connectivity for remote border areas. The all-weather structure replaces the seasonal crossing that frequently became inaccessible during the monsoon, disrupting transportation and daily life for local residents.

The newly inaugurated bridge is expected to provide year-round connectivity to nearly 10 villages located close to the Line of Control (LoC), ensuring uninterrupted access to essential services, including healthcare, education, markets, and government facilities.

Officials said the project is part of BRO’s continued efforts to strengthen strategic infrastructure while enhancing the quality of life for people living in border regions. Besides improving civilian mobility, the bridge will also facilitate faster movement of security forces and emergency services whenever required.

Residents have welcomed the development, describing it as a long-awaited relief from years of seasonal isolation caused by flooding in the Jambhir Nallah. During heavy rains, the previous crossing often became unsafe, leaving villages cut off for days.

The permanent steel bridge is expected to accelerate socio-economic development in the region by improving transportation, promoting trade and agriculture, and ensuring reliable connectivity throughout the year.
