Srinagar, July 7,2026- Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday held a series of meetings with representatives of the travel, tourism and business sectors at the Civil Secretariat in Srinagar, reaffirming his government’s commitment to strengthening tourism, promoting business, and accelerating economic growth in Jammu and Kashmir.
During the meeting, a delegation comprising representatives of leading travel and tourism associations discussed key issues affecting the tourism industry and shared suggestions to further enhance Jammu and Kashmir’s appeal as a premier tourist destination.
The delegation included Irshad Ahmad of the Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI), Zahoor Qari, President of SKÅL International Kashmir, Burhan Misgar, Chairman of the Travel Agents Federation of India (TAFI), and Waseem Goosani, President of Travel Agents Society of Kashmir (TASK).
The representatives highlighted matters related to increasing tourist arrivals, improving ease of travel, strengthening tourism infrastructure, and adopting measures to sustain the positive momentum of the tourism sector. They also suggested initiatives to enhance visitor experiences and further promote Jammu and Kashmir in domestic and international tourism markets.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah gave a patient hearing to the delegation and reiterated that tourism remains one of the key pillars of Jammu and Kashmir’s economy, contributing significantly to employment generation and overall development. He assured the stakeholders that the issues raised during the meeting would be examined sympathetically and addressed in a time-bound manner through coordination with the concerned departments.
Later, Tariq Ghani, Secretary General of the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce, also met the Chief Minister and discussed a wide range of issues concerning business, trade, and tourism. The discussions focused on creating a more business-friendly environment, addressing industry concerns, and exploring opportunities to strengthen economic activity across the Union Territory.
The Chief Minister reiterated his government’s resolve to work closely with industry stakeholders to promote sustainable tourism, facilitate investment, improve the ease of doing business, and ensure balanced economic growth in Jammu and Kashmir.
