Kashmir Ahead

Shri Amarnath Yatra 2026 dry run conducted to test security, convoy movement along Jammu–Srinagar highway

Udhampur, June 29,2026- In a major step towards ensuring the smooth and secure conduct of the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026, the Jammu and Kashmir administration on Sunday conducted a comprehensive dry run to assess security arrangements, convoy movement, and overall preparedness ahead of the annual pilgrimage.

The trial convoy was flagged off from the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas Base Camp in Jammu and proceeded along the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) via Udhampur towards Banihal, simulating the movement of pilgrim vehicles scheduled to commence with the Yatra.

The exercise was closely monitored by Jammu Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu Bhim Sen Tuti, who reviewed the operational readiness of security personnel and civil administration at various points along the route.

Senior officers from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Indian Army, traffic police, health department, disaster response teams, and other line departments participated in the mock exercise to evaluate inter-agency coordination and response mechanisms.

The dry run focused on testing convoy management, traffic regulation, communication systems, emergency response, medical preparedness, road safety measures, and deployment of security personnel to ensure a safe, seamless, and hassle-free pilgrimage for devotees.

Authorities also reviewed logistics, surveillance systems, quick response arrangements, and contingency plans to address any unforeseen situations during the Yatra. The exercise forms a crucial part of the administration’s multi-layered strategy to strengthen security and streamline pilgrim facilitation before the commencement of the annual pilgrimage.

The Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026 is scheduled to begin on July 3 and conclude on August 28, with lakhs of devotees expected to undertake the sacred pilgrimage to the holy cave shrine in the Himalayas of Jammu and Kashmir.

Officials expressed confidence that the coordinated efforts of the civil administration and security agencies would ensure a peaceful, secure, and well-managed Yatra for all pilgrims.
