Anantnag, June 11,2026- As part of extensive preparations for the forthcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY)-2026, Anantnag Police, in collaboration with the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), on Wednesday conducted a comprehensive mock drill at Chandanwari, one of the key transit points along the annual pilgrimage route in Pahalgam.
The exercise was designed to assess the preparedness of security and emergency response agencies, strengthen coordination among stakeholders, and ensure the smooth and safe conduct of the pilgrimage, which attracts thousands of devotees from across the country every year.
During the drill, various emergency situations were simulated to evaluate the effectiveness of response mechanisms and operational readiness. The scenarios included crowd management challenges, emergency evacuations, rescue operations, medical emergencies, and responses to potential security threats along the yatra route.
Officials said the exercise provided an opportunity for participating agencies to test communication networks, deployment strategies, contingency plans, and coordination protocols under real-time conditions. The drill also focused on ensuring swift response and efficient management of unforeseen situations that may arise during the pilgrimage.
Personnel from Anantnag Police, CAPFs, disaster response units, health services, and other allied departments actively participated in the exercise. Senior officers monitored the operations and reviewed the performance of various teams to identify areas for further improvement.
A police spokesperson said that such preparedness exercises are crucial for ensuring the safety and security of pilgrims and maintaining uninterrupted movement along the yatra route. The spokesperson added that all necessary measures are being taken to provide a secure environment for devotees undertaking the sacred pilgrimage.
The annual Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra is one of the most significant religious events in Jammu and Kashmir, requiring elaborate security arrangements and coordinated efforts from multiple agencies. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to ensuring a peaceful, safe, and incident-free yatra through meticulous planning and regular preparedness assessments.
