Sonamarg, June 8,2026-Tourists visiting the picturesque hill destination of Sonamarg in Jammu and Kashmir expressed delight over the region’s pleasant weather, warm hospitality, and scenic beauty, while also welcoming the ongoing Zojila Tunnel project as a transformative step for tourism and connectivity.
Enjoying the serene surroundings of Sonamarg, one tourist described the destination as a complete travel experience, highlighting the favourable climate, friendly local residents, and traditional cuisine as major attractions for visitors from across the country.
“The weather, people’s behaviour, hospitality and food here are major sources of attraction for us,” the tourist said, praising the overall tourism experience in the Valley.
Speaking about the 13.15-kilometre bi-directional Zojila Tunnel, the tourist noted that travel to Ladakh through the Zojila Pass has historically been challenging due to difficult terrain and weather-related disruptions.
“Zojila used to be a tough terrain to Ladakh and we often had to halt midway. Tunnels at such places are facilitating travel and also boosting tourism. If this tunnel is completed, it will be a great milestone considering the route from Srinagar to Leh,” he said.
The tourist also highlighted the strategic importance of the project, stating that improved connectivity would not only benefit travellers and tourists but also strengthen access to Ladakh from a defence and logistics perspective.
Once completed, the Zojila Tunnel will provide all-weather connectivity between Kashmir and Ladakh, significantly reducing travel time and ensuring uninterrupted movement throughout the year. The project is expected to boost tourism, enhance trade, improve accessibility, and contribute to the economic development of the region.
The tunnel, one of India’s most ambitious infrastructure projects, is widely seen as a game-changer for the Himalayan region, making Ladakh more accessible while strengthening links between Srinagar, Kargil and Leh.
