Massive devotee influx suspends Vaishno Devi Yatra; registration

Katra, June 9,2026-The pilgrimage to the revered shrine of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi has been temporarily suspended owing to an unprecedented rush of devotees in Katra and along the yatra route.

Authorities announced that registration counters for the yatra have been closed for the day to regulate the flow of pilgrims and ensure the safety and convenience of visitors. The decision was taken after a massive influx of devotees led to overcrowding at registration points and along the pilgrimage track.

Officials have informed pilgrims that the yatra registration counters will reopen tomorrow at 4:00 AM, after which fresh registrations will be issued based on the prevailing situation and crowd management requirements.

The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, in coordination with the district administration and security agencies, is closely monitoring the situation. Pilgrims have been advised to cooperate with authorities and follow official advisories regarding registration and travel plans.

Every year, millions of devotees visit the holy cave shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi, making it one of the most visited pilgrimage destinations in India. During peak travel periods, authorities often implement crowd-control measures to ensure a safe and smooth pilgrimage experience.

Devotees planning to undertake the yatra have been urged to check official updates before proceeding to Katra and to avoid unnecessary congestion at registration centers.
