Kulgam sericulture department boosts rural livelihoods through Silk Samagra-2 Scheme

Kulgam, June 6,2026- The Department of Sericulture in Kulgam is making significant progress in promoting sustainable silk production and rural employment through the implementation of the Silk Samagra-2 Scheme. The initiative has emerged as a major source of livelihood generation, particularly for farmers and unemployed youth across the district.

Under the scheme, 52 Silkworm Rearing Houses have been established in Kulgam, providing beneficiaries with modern infrastructure to undertake scientific silkworm rearing and improve cocoon production. The project aims to strengthen the sericulture sector while creating sustainable income opportunities for local communities.

Officials from the Sericulture Department stated that the scheme is helping revive traditional silk farming practices by integrating modern techniques and providing necessary support to farmers. The initiative has also encouraged greater participation from young entrepreneurs who are exploring sericulture as a viable and profitable occupation.

The Silk Samagra-2 Scheme focuses on enhancing silk productivity, improving the quality of silk cocoons, and expanding employment opportunities in rural areas. By supporting infrastructure development and capacity building, the programme is contributing to economic growth and self-reliance among farming families.

The department has urged more youth and aspiring farmers to take advantage of the scheme and become part of the growing sericulture sector. With increasing awareness and government support, Kulgam is steadily emerging as an important hub for silk production in Jammu and Kashmir.
