Kashmir Ahead

Ganderbal, June 5,2026- Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday declared that a historic people’s movement against narco-terrorism has emerged across the Kashmir Valley, as he joined the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyaan in Ganderbal and participated in a massive padyatra attended by people from all walks of life.

Addressing a large gathering after the padyatra, the Lieutenant Governor said that his visits to every district of the Kashmir Valley during the anti-drug campaign had revealed an unprecedented public awakening against the menace of drug abuse and narco-terrorism.

“Having now visited every district in Kashmir Valley and stood with each march, I can say that a historic movement against narco-terrorism has risen,” Sinha said, describing the campaign as one of the largest social movements witnessed in recent years in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Lieutenant Governor highlighted the significant achievements made under the anti-drug campaign over the past 55 days, underscoring the administration’s determination to dismantle drug networks and safeguard the future of the region’s youth.

According to the figures shared by him, 1,036 FIRs have been registered, 1,128 drug smugglers arrested, more than 100 properties attached, nearly 700 driving licences cancelled, and recommendations made for the cancellation of passports of 130 drug smugglers during the period.

The figures, he said, reflect the intensity of the crackdown launched against those involved in the illegal drug trade and narco-terrorism activities.

Recalling the beginning of the campaign, Sinha said that fifty-five days ago he had launched a decisive battle against drugs from Jammu, determined to free the younger generation from the grip of addiction and to dismantle the networks profiting from the destruction of lives.

“Fifty-five days ago, from the soil of Jammu, I declared that enough is enough. What began as a war against drugs and narco-terrorism has now ignited into a true people’s movement, a movement born of courage, sustained by spirit, and driven by the collective will of ordinary citizens. Today, that resolve stands stronger than ever,” he said.

The Lieutenant Governor observed that the overwhelming participation of citizens in the campaign demonstrates that society has united against the drug menace. He noted that the movement is no longer limited to government departments or law enforcement agencies but has evolved into a collective mission embraced by families, educational institutions, social organizations, youth groups, and local communities.

He emphasized that the campaign aims not only to eliminate the supply of drugs but also to address the social and psychological consequences of addiction.

Sinha assured that the administration remains committed to ensuring the rehabilitation and reintegration of those who have fallen victim to substance abuse.

“With compassion and dignity, we will help them return to the mainstream of society. Through treatment, counselling, and new employment opportunities, we are opening new doors,” he said.

The Lieutenant Governor stressed that individuals battling addiction should not be viewed solely through the lens of punishment but should also be provided opportunities for recovery and transformation.

He said that de-addiction centres, counselling services, awareness campaigns, and employment-oriented initiatives are being strengthened to support affected individuals and their families.

Describing the anti-drug drive as a social revolution, Sinha said that every section of society has a responsibility to contribute to the movement.

“People must remember that this is not simply a government programme, but it is a social revolution. Together, we will ensure that no drug smugglers or peddlers ever find a place in Jammu Kashmir,” he said.

The Lieutenant Governor reiterated his commitment to protecting future generations from the devastating consequences of drug abuse.

“Fifty-five days ago, I stood on Jammu’s soil and declared that we would free our children from the poison of drugs, protect our families from being torn apart by drug addiction, and refuse to let our people become hostages to narco-terrorists who profit from suffering and fund terrorism with their black money,” he said.

He warned that narco-terrorists are attempting to destroy the future of young people by trapping them in addiction and using the proceeds from drug trafficking to support activities aimed at destabilizing society.

Sinha noted that during every padyatra and public interaction held across Jammu and Kashmir, he had highlighted the devastating impact of drugs on individuals, families, and communities.

According to him, drug addiction destroys the ability of young people to realize their potential, pursue their dreams, and contribute positively to society.

He said the administration has consistently emphasized that the fight against drugs is not merely a law-and-order issue but a broader struggle to preserve the social fabric of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Lieutenant Governor pointed out that the illegal drug trade is closely linked to terrorism and organized criminal networks.

He explained that money generated through drug trafficking is often used to purchase weapons, finance anti-national activities, and support terror ecosystems operating within and beyond the borders.

“This is not simply a matter of ordinary crime but it is also a question of national security and a direct threat to the very survival of our society,” he said.

Sinha asserted that narco-terrorists operating in Jammu and Kashmir, whether based within the region or supported from across the border, are enemies of the people and must be dealt with firmly.

“The narco-terrorists, whether sitting in neighbouring countries or operating inside Jammu Kashmir, are enemies of our people. They are enemies of our children. They are enemies of our progress,” he said.

The Lieutenant Governor made it clear that the administration would continue to pursue strict legal action against all those involved in drug trafficking and narco-terrorism.

“Let me make this clear that narco-terrorists operating in Jammu Kashmir will have to pay a heavy price,” he warned.

Sinha further observed that individuals responsible for destroying the lives of young people and undermining the future of society would face severe consequences under the law.

He said the administration is determined to ensure that justice is delivered and that drug traffickers are held fully accountable for their actions.

The Lieutenant Governor also highlighted the importance of public participation in sustaining the momentum of the campaign.

He called upon mothers, sisters, and daughters to take a leading role in safeguarding communities from the influence of drugs.

According to him, women have always played a crucial role in shaping society and can become powerful agents of change in the fight against addiction.

He urged them to remain vigilant and actively support awareness initiatives in villages, towns, and urban neighbourhoods.

Sinha also appealed to the youth of Jammu and Kashmir to become active participants in the movement.

He encouraged students and young citizens to act as guardians of schools, colleges, and educational institutions and to help create environments that discourage substance abuse.

The Lieutenant Governor said young people must recognize their responsibility toward society and stand united against those attempting to lure vulnerable individuals into drug addiction.

He expressed confidence that the youth of Jammu and Kashmir possess the strength, talent, and determination necessary to defeat the challenge posed by narcotics.

Reaffirming his commitment to eliminating drug networks, Sinha said the administration would continue its efforts until narco-terrorism is completely uprooted from the Union Territory.

“I promise to the people that narco-terrorists will no longer find refuge. We will hunt them down. Narco-terrorists’ days are numbered. Their networks will be dismantled, one by one,” he said.

Describing the pledge as a solemn commitment to the people, the Lieutenant Governor assured that every individual involved in narco-terrorism would be brought to justice.

“This is my oath, my solemn promise that every narco-terrorist will answer for their crimes and their sins,” he added.

The event in Ganderbal witnessed enthusiastic participation from citizens representing different sections of society, including students, youth organizations, community leaders, government officials, civil society groups, and local residents.

The large turnout reflected growing public support for the Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyaan and demonstrated a collective commitment to building a drug-free society.

Participants carried messages promoting awareness, prevention, and community responsibility while reiterating their support for the campaign’s objectives.

On the occasion, the Lieutenant Governor also launched Sindh Samvad, a podcast series aimed at strengthening public engagement and creating greater awareness on social issues, including drug abuse, youth empowerment, and community development.

The initiative is expected to serve as a platform for meaningful conversations and public outreach, encouraging wider participation in social reform efforts.

Sinha also felicitated the winners of various competitions organized under the Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyaan.

The competitions were conducted to encourage youth participation and spread awareness about the dangers of drug abuse through creative and educational activities.

The Lieutenant Governor praised the efforts of participants and emphasized the importance of involving young people in awareness campaigns aimed at building a healthier and safer society.

As the Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Campaign continues to gather momentum across the Union Territory, the administration remains focused on combining strict enforcement measures with rehabilitation, awareness, and community engagement.

The campaign has emerged as a major social movement seeking to protect future generations from addiction, dismantle drug trafficking networks, and strengthen the fight against narco-terrorism.

With growing public support and sustained government action, the initiative aims to create a safer, healthier, and drug-free Jammu and Kashmir while ensuring that those responsible for spreading the drug menace are brought to justice.
