Kashmir Ahead

Jammu and Kashmir intensifies anti-drug drive, LG Manoj Sinha says major crackdown underway

Srinagar, May 22,2026- Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has said that the administration has intensified its fight against drug abuse and narcotics trafficking in the Union Territory, with a focused campaign aimed at dismantling supply chains, increasing awareness, and strengthening rehabilitation efforts.

Speaking on the ongoing anti-drug campaign in Jammu and Kashmir, the Lieutenant Governor said that the “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan” launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2020 created a strong nationwide impact, including in Jammu and Kashmir. He added that Union Home Minister Amit Shah has also been regularly reviewing the issue through zone-wise and region-wise meetings.

LG Manoj Sinha said the campaign has led to a significant rise in seizures, arrests, and FIR registrations, while also disrupting drug supply networks to some extent. However, he admitted that over the past one to one-and-a-half years, the drug menace had started becoming more serious in Jammu and Kashmir, raising concerns among parents, educational institutions, and society at large.

“The entire society wanted a well-thought-out campaign to tackle this issue,” the Lieutenant Governor said, adding that after consultations with various stakeholders and officials, the administration launched a comprehensive anti-drug campaign in Jammu on April 11.

Highlighting the government’s strategy, LG Sinha said the administration is working on three major fronts — completely dismantling the narcotics supply chain, intensifying awareness campaigns, and ensuring rehabilitation for victims of drug addiction.

Calling rehabilitation the “most challenging task,” he stressed the need for collective societal participation to save the youth from the dangers of substance abuse.

The Lieutenant Governor further said that between April 11 and May 21–22, within nearly 41 days, the Jammu and Kashmir Police carried out extensive and serious action against narcotics networks. He said strong measures have been taken against interstate smugglers and individuals involved in drug trafficking who had become a major source of concern in the region.

The administration has repeatedly maintained that the anti-drug drive in Jammu and Kashmir is not only aimed at law enforcement but also at protecting the future of the youth and ensuring a safer society.
