Jammu, May 19,2026- Indian Railways has approved critical infrastructure and safety enhancement works worth ₹238 crore on the Jammu–Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra rail section, aimed at strengthening the resilience and reliability of the strategically important route.
The approved works include slope stabilisation, tunnel rehabilitation and bridge protection measures along the Jammu–Katra section, which passes through challenging hilly terrain and serves thousands of pilgrims and passengers every day.
Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the initiative reflects the Government of India’s strong commitment to ensuring safe and dependable rail connectivity in difficult geographical conditions.
He stated that the project will enhance long-term operational safety, improve infrastructure durability and protect critical railway assets from weather-related and geological risks.
The Jammu–Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra rail corridor is considered one of the most important railway links in North India, connecting pilgrims and tourists to the revered shrine of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine.
Officials said the approved protection and rehabilitation works will further strengthen passenger safety and ensure uninterrupted rail services on the route.
