Ramban 18 May , 2026- Ahead of the Shri Amarnath Yatra 2026, the Indian Army organised a training programme for Village Defence Groups (VDGs) in Ramban district to enhance local security, improve preparedness and strengthen coordination with residents along the pilgrimage route.
The initiative focused on boosting vigilance, emergency response capabilities and community coordination to help ensure a safe and smooth pilgrimage for devotees travelling to the holy Amarnath cave shrine.
Army officials said the training programme aims to create stronger cooperation between security agencies and local communities while reinforcing safety measures across vulnerable areas during the yatra period.
The Shri Amarnath Yatra holds immense significance for the people of Kashmir, not only as a major religious pilgrimage but also as an important source of livelihood for thousands of local families associated with tourism, transport, trade and hospitality sectors.
The yatra also reflects the pluralistic culture and communal harmony of Kashmir, where local Muslims warmly welcome Hindu pilgrims and contribute towards their safety, comfort and well-being throughout the journey by offering services and assistance at every stage.
The training drive in Ramban forms part of broader preparations being undertaken to ensure peaceful and secure conduct of the annual pilgrimage.
