NIFT Srinagar Hosts 3-Day Artisan Workshop to Preserve Kashmir’s Rich Craft Heritage National Institute of Fashion Technology organized a 3-Day Artisan Awareness Workshop from 14th to 16th May 2026 at the NIFT Srinagar Campus, Ompora Budgam. The workshop aims to promote artisan engagement, create awareness, and preserve the rich traditional crafts and heritage of Jammu & Kashmir through interactive sessions, demonstrations, and cultural activities. The inaugural session was graced by Mr. Jehangir Ahmad, KAS, SDM Khansahib, who attended the event as the Chief Guest. The Guest of Honour for the occasion was Mr. Zubair Kirmani, Senior Designer. The programme was also attended by Mr. Arshad Mushtaq, CIC, NIFT Srinagar, faculty members, students, and artisans from different areas of Budgam district. The event commenced with a traditional Ravite Esband Soaz, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of Kashmir, followed by welcome addresses and insightful lectures by the distinguished guests. The speakers highlighted the importance of preserving traditional crafts, empowering local artisans, and creating opportunities for sustainable growth in the handicrafts sector. During the programme, participating artisans were felicitated with tokens of love and appreciation in recognition of their valuable contribution to preserving the region’s traditional art and craft practices. As part of the workshop activities, students of NIFT Srinagar installed and showcased creative stalls displaying innovative craft-based products and design concepts. The dignitaries and guests visited the stalls and appreciated the efforts of the students in blending traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design approaches. The workshop will continue for three days and will feature various awareness sessions, demonstrations, skill-sharing activities, and interactions between artisans, designers, and students to strengthen collaboration and promote the rich craft traditions of Kashmir.
