Kupwara Padyatra: LG Sinha says drug networks weakening in J&K

Kupwara , May 13,2026-Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday said that the ongoing ‘Drug-Free Jammu Kashmir Campaign’ has delivered a major blow to the narco-smuggling ecosystem, with intensified action against drug traffickers and peddlers across the Union Territory.

Addressing a gathering during a padyatra in Kupwara under the anti-drug campaign, LG Sinha said that the people’s movement against narcotics is rapidly turning into a revolution aimed at building a drug-free and safer Jammu and Kashmir.

The Lieutenant Governor stated that during the past 32 days, authorities have taken strict and consistent action against narco-terror networks operating in the region. He said properties worth crores linked to drug smugglers have been seized, illegal assets confiscated and recommendations have been made for the cancellation of passports of 15 drug smugglers.

LG Sinha further revealed that more than 730 smugglers and drug peddlers have been arrested as part of the intensified crackdown. He said the administration is determined to dismantle the entire drug trafficking network and protect the youth from the menace of substance abuse.

Highlighting the importance of public participation, the Lieutenant Governor appreciated the support of citizens, youth groups, civil society organisations and security agencies in strengthening the anti-drug movement. He urged people to continue supporting the campaign and spread awareness at the grassroots level.

The padyatra in Kupwara witnessed massive participation from students, youth, officials and local residents, reflecting strong public support for the government’s efforts to eliminate drug abuse and narco-terrorism from Jammu and Kashmir.
