Kashmir Ahead

Indian Army expands border outreach with ‘Sangam 88.8’ Radio

Rajouri, May 12,2026- The Indian Army has launched “Sangam 88.8” community radio station in the border area of Keri in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, aiming to empower local communities by providing access to information, employment updates, government schemes, culture, and livelihood opportunities.

The initiative is being seen as a major step towards strengthening communication outreach in remote border regions where access to timely information often remains limited.

The community radio station will broadcast programmes related to local culture, education, youth employment, healthcare awareness, agriculture, government welfare schemes, and community development, helping bridge the information gap in far-flung villages along the border.

RJ Sana, one of the voices associated with the radio station, described the initiative as a meaningful opportunity for local youth and border residents.

“I heard about a commendable initiative launched by the Indian Army that a community radio station was being established in the border area of Keri. I felt strongly that I absolutely had to apply for it. So, I began practising, filled out the application form, and waited,” she said.

She added that the recruitment process witnessed participation from nearly 200 to 250 applicants, reflecting the enthusiasm among local youth to become part of the initiative.

“The Indian Army’s primary initiative here was to provide job opportunities to the youth. Secondly, information, government schemes, and other important resources do not easily reach people living in border areas. This platform will help connect communities with useful and timely information,” RJ Sana said.

Officials said the radio station will also promote local talent, preserve regional traditions, and provide a platform for community voices from border villages.

Residents of the area welcomed the initiative and said the community radio service would help increase awareness, encourage youth participation, and strengthen social development in remote areas of Rajouri district.

The launch of “Sangam 88.8” reflects ongoing efforts to improve connectivity, communication, and opportunities for people living in border belts of Jammu and Kashmir.
