Srinagar, May 12,2026- Jammu and Kashmir is witnessing a historic tourism boom, recording nearly 13 crore tourist visits between 2016 and 2025, reflecting the Union Territory’s growing popularity as one of India’s leading travel destinations.
Officials said the tourism sector in Jammu and Kashmir has experienced remarkable growth over the past decade, driven by improved connectivity, enhanced infrastructure, better security conditions, and aggressive promotion of tourism destinations across the region.
Popular tourist destinations including Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Sonamarg, Jammu, Patnitop, and other scenic locations have witnessed a significant increase in domestic as well as international visitors.
The rise in tourist footfall has also boosted local businesses, hospitality services, transport sectors, handicrafts, and employment opportunities for thousands of people associated with tourism-related activities.
Officials attributed the tourism surge to major improvements in road connectivity, expansion of air travel facilities, development of tourism infrastructure, and increased focus on adventure, heritage, eco, and religious tourism across Jammu and Kashmir.
Tourism stakeholders said the growing global interest in Kashmir’s natural beauty, culture, hospitality, and adventure activities has positioned the region among the most sought-after destinations in the country.
The administration has also undertaken several initiatives to promote year-round tourism through festivals, sporting events, winter tourism, homestays, and destination development projects.
Industry experts believe the continued rise in tourist arrivals will further strengthen Jammu and Kashmir’s economy and create new opportunities for youth, entrepreneurs, and local communities.
Officials reiterated that the government remains committed to developing sustainable tourism infrastructure while preserving the ecological and cultural heritage of the region.
