Udhampur begins preparations for India’s first fully digital census 2027

Udhampur, May 9 ,2026- Preparations for Census 2027 have officially begun in Udhampur district, marking a significant step towards India’s first fully digital census exercise.

Deputy Commissioner Minga Sherpa said that citizens will be able to pre-register online through the official census portal using a newly introduced self-registration facility.

Under the digital system, residents can submit household and socio-economic details online, making the process faster, more transparent, and convenient. The information provided by citizens will later be verified by designated field teams during the census operation.

Officials said the digital census initiative aims to improve data accuracy, streamline enumeration, and reduce paperwork through the use of technology-driven systems.

The administration has also started awareness and preparatory measures to ensure smooth implementation of the large-scale exercise across urban and rural areas of the district.

Census 2027 is expected to become a landmark initiative in India’s governance and data management framework, with Udhampur among the districts actively gearing up for the nationwide digital enumeration process.
