Kashmir sees massive public response to #NashaMuktAbhiyan

Srinagar, May 9, 2026-The ongoing #NashaMuktAbhiyan campaign has emerged as a massive people’s movement across Kashmir, witnessing overwhelming public participation and widespread awareness activities over the last 25 days.

According to official figures, a total of 58,533 awareness programmes have been conducted across various districts of the Valley, focusing on educating people about the harmful effects of drug abuse and the importance of a drug-free society.

The campaign has recorded the participation of more than 51 lakh citizens, reflecting strong community involvement in the fight against substance abuse. As part of the initiative, 1,752 youth clubs have been activated to engage young people in awareness drives, sports activities and social outreach programmes aimed at preventing drug addiction among the youth.

Religious institutions have also played a major role in the campaign, with 928 anti-drug sermons delivered in mosques and other religious centres to spread awareness and encourage collective responsibility against drug abuse.

Officials said the movement is being strengthened through coordinated efforts of the administration, police, educational institutions, youth organisations and civil society groups. The campaign focuses on prevention, awareness and rehabilitation while encouraging community participation at the grassroots level.

The growing response to #NashaMuktAbhiyan is being seen as a significant step towards building a healthier and drug-free Jammu & Kashmir.
