Srinagar, May 2, 2026- Manoj Sinha has reiterated the administration’s firm commitment to eradicate drug abuse in the Union Territory, stating that consistent efforts have been underway since 2021 to curb the growing menace of narcotics.
Addressing the issue, the Lieutenant Governor expressed concern over the rising cases of addiction among youth in Jammu and Kashmir, calling it a serious challenge for society. He highlighted that the narcotics trade has direct links with terrorism, making it not just a social issue but also a significant security concern.
Sinha emphasized a multi-pronged strategy to tackle the problem, focusing on disrupting the drug supply chain, intensifying awareness campaigns, and ensuring proper treatment and rehabilitation for those affected by addiction. He stressed that collective efforts from society, institutions, and law enforcement agencies are essential to achieve lasting results.
As part of the ongoing awareness campaign, the Lieutenant Governor announced a padyatra scheduled from the football stadium to Lal Chowk in Srinagar. The initiative aims to mobilize public participation and spread awareness about the dangers of drug abuse.
The administration continues to push forward with its vision of a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir through coordinated action and community engagement.
