Jammu, May 1,2026- In a major boost to rail connectivity in Jammu and Kashmir, the Vande Bharat Express operating between Srinagar and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra has now been extended to Jammu Tawi. The move is aimed at improving passenger convenience and enhancing regional connectivity.
Along with the route extension, the train’s capacity has been significantly increased from 8 to 20 coaches, allowing more passengers to benefit from the high-speed, modern rail service. The expansion is expected to ease travel demand, especially during peak seasons and pilgrimage periods.
Officials stated that the extension to Jammu Tawi will provide seamless travel for passengers commuting between Jammu and Kashmir’s key destinations, including the popular pilgrimage site of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi. The enhanced capacity is also likely to reduce waiting lists and improve overall travel efficiency.
The development marks another milestone in strengthening infrastructure in the Union Territory, aligning with the government’s broader focus on improving transport networks and boosting tourism in the region.
With faster connectivity and increased capacity, the extended Vande Bharat service is set to transform rail travel across Jammu and Kashmir, benefiting residents, tourists, and pilgrims alike.
