Kashmir Ahead

First vermicompost consignment reaches Anantnag from Ambala, boosting agri-supply

Anantnag, April 20,2026- In a significant boost to the agricultural supply chain in South Kashmir, the first consignment of vermicompost has successfully reached Anantnag from Ambala, marking a new step toward strengthening sustainable farming practices in the region.

The consignment, comprising around 1,200 bags of organic vermicompost, was dispatched by Sikri Farms and transported via piecemeal rail traffic. The initiative not only ensures timely delivery of high-quality organic manure but also supports small traders and farmers who rely on eco-friendly inputs for improved crop yield.

Officials said the arrival of this consignment is expected to reduce dependence on chemical fertilizers and encourage the adoption of organic farming methods across the district. Vermicompost, known for enhancing soil fertility and boosting plant growth, is increasingly gaining popularity among farmers in Kashmir.

Local traders welcomed the development, stating that easier access to such resources will help stabilize supply and reduce costs. The move is also aligned with broader efforts to promote sustainable agriculture and strengthen the rural economy in Jammu and Kashmir.

Authorities highlighted that improved logistics and better coordination between suppliers and transport services are playing a crucial role in ensuring smooth movement of agricultural inputs into the Valley.

With rising awareness about organic farming, the successful delivery of vermicompost to Anantnag is expected to pave the way for more such consignments in the future, further empowering farmers and enhancing productivity.
