‘Batt Koch’ lights up Srinagar screen, sparks local pride

Srinagar, March 22,2026- A wave of excitement swept through the city as the film Batt Koch, created by two young Kashmiri directors, premiered at the INOX Cinema Srinagar, drawing a large gathering of enthusiastic locals.

Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Srinagar, Akshay Labroo, lauded the filmmakers for showcasing local storytelling on the big screen. Speaking at the event, he said it was a matter of pride for the region that emerging talent from Kashmir is creating meaningful cinema rooted in local narratives.

“It is our immense good fortune that two young directors from our Kashmir, Siddharth and Ankit, have created a film based right here in Srinagar, titled Batt Koch. The story centres on the city and a specific family; it is a deeply emotional tale,” he said.

Labroo further noted that the film’s premiere in Srinagar marks an important moment for the local creative community. He highlighted the overwhelming response from the public, with a massive crowd turning up at the theatre to support the filmmakers and watch the film.

“Today, they have finally arrived at INOX Cinema in Srinagar to present their story. A massive crowd from our community has gathered here to watch this film. We are all striving to lend our full support,” he added.

The film Batt Koch is said to revolve around the life of a Srinagar-based family, capturing emotions, relationships, and the essence of Kashmiri culture. The strong local turnout reflects a growing interest in homegrown cinema and a renewed push to promote regional storytelling.

The premiere event not only celebrated the film’s release but also highlighted the potential of Kashmir’s film industry, as more young creators step forward to tell stories from the Valley.
