This tax awareness initiative is called ‘Kar- Tavya’. It is the responsibility of all the taxpayers, Industries Association, Traders Association, Drawing & Disbursing Officers and other stakeholders to make the economy of Jammu and Kashmir strong. In this ‘Mahayagya’, all of us should give our contribution, said the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Shri Manoj Sinha. ‘Kar- Tavya’ is a step towards holistic tax awareness and indicates that the state tax department instead of regulatory has adopted a promotive approach focussing on capacity building, LG stated. In 2017, India’s biggest tax reform came about under the guidance of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. At the same time, the International Monetary Fund released its report stating that India’s economy is an elephant that is starting to run. Within five years in 2022, India became the world’s fifth largest economy. It is a matter of pride for us, LG said. Since childhood we have been hearing that India was called the ‘golden bird’. The time is coming as we are heading in that direction. Ours is the fastest growing economy and the dream of a manufacturing hub is turning into a reality, LG remarked.
