Kashmir Ahead

Sahar Khad Bridge near Kathua likely ready before Amarnath Yatra 2026

Kathua, March 13,2026- The reconstruction work on the Sahar Khad Bridge near Kathua is progressing at a rapid pace and is expected to be completed by April 2026, providing a major boost to connectivity in the region ahead of the annual Amarnath Yatra.

The bridge had suffered severe damage last year when heavy rainfall caused its pillars to collapse, leading to major disruptions in vehicular movement and affecting daily commuters in the area. Since then, reconstruction work has been underway to restore the crucial link as quickly as possible.

Officials associated with the project said the new bridge structure is being built with improved design and stronger foundations to withstand extreme weather conditions. Once completed, it will restore smooth traffic flow and enhance road connectivity for local residents and travelers passing through the route.

The timely completion of the bridge is particularly important as the route is frequently used by pilgrims traveling to the revered Vaishno Devi Temple as well as those heading towards the Amarnath pilgrimage in the Kashmir Valley.

Local residents have welcomed the fast-paced reconstruction, noting that the bridge plays a vital role in daily transportation, trade, and access to essential services. The restored infrastructure is expected to ease congestion, improve safety, and strengthen regional connectivity in the Kathua district.

With the anticipated completion before the start of the Amarnath Yatra 2026, authorities aim to ensure smooth movement of pilgrims and vehicles, making the journey safer and more convenient for thousands of devotees traveling through the region.
