Jammu, March 13,2026- Major safety and commuter facility works have been completed along the National Highway 44 (NH-44) in Jammu and Kashmir, with ₹171.25 crore worth projects revenue improving road safety, traffic flow, and the overall passenger experience on one of the busiest roads in the region
Officials have stated that among the completed initiatives are the construction of a blackspot rectification at SIDCO Chowk and the Gole Mela – Sangoor stretch, construction of a Light Vehicular Underpass (LVUP) along with service roads at Samba, and construction of modern Wayside Amenities (WSAs) at Jhajjar Kotli, Qazigund and Marhama.
Authorities mentioned that the aforementioned project sites have been reported on multiple occasions as accident-prone areas and high-conflict traffic zones along NH-44, which is the lifeline highway that connects Jammu and the Kashmir Valley. The newly executed works are aimed at the resolution of perennial traffic congestion problems before restoring the commuter safety.
The works carried out on blackspot rectification focused on the re-design of road geometry at the intersections, improving of turning radii, and incorporating of other road traffic control devices aimed at collision prevention. Simultaneously, the LVUP at Samba with the construction of service roads will facilitate the local traffic flow and will maintain the uninterrupted traffic flow on the main carriageway.
During construction, \”Wayside Amenities\” were added to the upgraded construction of Jhajjar Kotli, Qazigund, and Marhama, which allows travelers to have a comfortable experience by providing them with a resting area, parking, a toilet, and a refreshment area.
The upgrades should improve the circulation of vehicles, allow turns to be made with less risk, and reduce the amount of congestion, especially along the road sections and at the intersections where accidents occur frequently.
The upgrades will enhance safety, traffic flow, and the functionality of the roadside amenities on NH-44, which will further improve the overall safety and connectivity along the highways across the Jammu and Kashmir region.
