PM Modi awards J&K for achieving TB-free status in districts Pulwama & Anantnag

On the eve of World TB Day on March 24, ‘One World TB Summit 2023’ was organised at Varanasi, UP where the Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi felicitated the Secretary H&ME, J&K Shri Bhupinder for significant achievement under TB free status in two districts of J&K. DC Pulwama, Shri Baseer ul Haq and DC Anantnag Dr Basharat were felicitated for excellent work on the ground to detect-prevent-treat and build to eliminate Tuberculosis disease. PM Narendra Modi explained how the government is working on a new strategy to see that no TB patient goes without treatment. For screening of TB patients and their treatment , we have linked them to Ayushman Bharat Yojana. For free treatment of TB, we have increased the number of labs in the country. At places where TB patients are more in numbers, we make action plans with a specific focus. We have launched a TB-free Panchayats campaign in which the village representatives will resolve to make sure there is not a single TB patient in their village. They will make them healthy. For the prevention of TB, instead of the six-months’ course, we will start a treatment lasting for just three months. Earlier, the patients used to take medicines daily for six months. In the new arrangement , the patients need to take the medicines just once in a week. Their convenience will also increase and they will be able to take medicines easily, said the PM.. To get free of TB, India is making good use of technology. For every TB patient, to track their urgent care we have created a Nikshay portal. We are using data science in a modern way. The Health Ministry and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) together have designed a new method to tackle sub-national disease surveillance. On the global level, after WHO India is the only nation to have developed this model. It is because of these efforts that the numbers of TB patients in India is declining. On World TB Day, Karnataka and Jammu & Kashmir have been honoured with theTB-free award. At the district level too, J&K has been awarded for excellent work. Taking inspiration from similar results, India has made a big decision. India’s TB Mukt Abhiyan will meet the UN SDGs global target set to end TB by 2030. In fact, India is working to end TB by the year 2025, five years ahead of the global target. A big resolution has been taken on the trust of the countrymen. I am sure that this resolution of ours will definitely come true. Yes, we can end TB, said the Prime Minister!
