Kathua, March 10,2026-In a significant step towards promoting sports and youth development in rural areas, new synthetic badminton and volleyball courts have been constructed in Muthi Jagir and Khaniyara panchayats of Nagri Block in Kathua district.
The sports facilities have been developed under the District UT Capex Budget 2025–26 at a total cost of ₹24 lakh. The initiative aims to strengthen rural sports infrastructure and create better opportunities for young athletes in the region.
Officials said the newly constructed synthetic courts will provide local youth with access to quality sports facilities, encouraging them to participate actively in badminton and volleyball. The project is expected to serve as a platform for nurturing emerging talent and promoting a healthy lifestyle among young people in the villages.
Local residents welcomed the initiative, stating that such infrastructure projects help motivate youth to engage in sports and recreational activities. Community members believe the courts will also support the organisation of local tournaments and sports events, further strengthening the sporting culture in the area.
Authorities noted that improving sports infrastructure in rural areas remains a key priority under various development initiatives. By providing modern sports facilities at the grassroots level, the administration aims to encourage youth to pursue sports as a positive and productive avenue.
The new badminton and volleyball courts are expected to become hubs for sporting activities in the villages, fostering teamwork, discipline, and community engagement. The project reflects ongoing efforts to empower rural youth and promote sports culture across Kathua district.
