Udhampur, March 8,2026- International Women’s Day 2026 was celebrated with great enthusiasm in Udhampur under the theme “Give to Gain.” The event was organized by the District Administration Udhampur in collaboration with the Social Welfare Department to highlight the importance of women empowerment and recognize the contributions of women in society.
A special function was held to mark the occasion, bringing together officials, community members, and women achievers from across the district. Deputy Commissioner Udhampur Minga Sherpa attended the programme as the Chief Guest, while the Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Udhampur was the Guest of Honour. The event was presided over by Kanika Gupta.
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner highlighted the crucial role of women in shaping society and emphasized the need for collective efforts to ensure equal opportunities for women in all spheres of life. He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to promoting gender equality, supporting women-led initiatives, and strengthening schemes aimed at women’s welfare.
During the programme, bicycles and sewing machines were distributed among beneficiaries under the flagship Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiative. The distribution aimed to support girls’ education, encourage mobility, and provide livelihood opportunities to women, especially from economically weaker sections.
Several women from different fields were also felicitated during the event for their outstanding contributions to society. The awards recognized achievements in social work, entrepreneurship, education, and community development. Their inspiring stories served as a motivation for other women to pursue their ambitions and contribute positively to the community.
Addressing the gathering, the Guest of Honour appreciated the efforts of the district administration and the Social Welfare Department for organizing such a meaningful event. He stressed that empowering women is essential for building a progressive and inclusive society.
The programme also featured cultural performances and interactive sessions highlighting the achievements of women and the importance of gender equality. Participants praised the initiative, noting that such celebrations not only recognize women’s achievements but also strengthen the movement toward empowerment and self-reliance.
