Army announces recruitment of 800 porters for operations in Rajouri–Poonch sector

Kashmir, March 5,2026-The Indian Army is set to recruit around 800 porters in the Rajouri–Poonch sector to support logistical operations for a newly raised porter company along the border areas.

According to officials, the recruitment drive aims to strengthen logistical support for troops deployed in difficult terrain and remote forward areas. Porters play a crucial role in transporting essential supplies, equipment, rations, and ammunition to locations that are often inaccessible by vehicles due to mountainous landscapes and harsh weather conditions.

The Rajouri–Poonch belt, located along the Line of Control, remains strategically significant and requires continuous logistical support for soldiers stationed in forward posts. The newly raised porter company will enhance the Army’s operational efficiency in the region.

Local residents have welcomed the move, saying it will provide employment opportunities for youth and labourers in border villages. Many people from remote areas traditionally assist the Army as porters, especially in terrains where roads and transport facilities are limited.

Officials said the recruitment process will prioritize physically fit candidates familiar with the mountainous terrain, as the job involves carrying loads across steep and challenging routes.

The initiative is also expected to strengthen coordination between the Army and local communities in the border districts, while simultaneously improving supply lines for troops deployed in high-altitude and remote areas of the Rajouri–Poonch sector.
