Kashmir, March 3,2026- Strengthening tertiary healthcare services, eight organ transplant centres are now functional across Jammu & Kashmir, marking a significant milestone in advanced medical care within the Union Territory.
The expansion of transplant facilities is aimed at reducing patient referrals outside J&K and ensuring timely, accessible treatment for those requiring kidney and other organ transplants. Officials said the operational centres are equipped with modern operation theatres, specialized surgical teams, and post-transplant care units.
Among the key institutions contributing to the initiative are Government Medical College Jammu and Government Medical College Srinagar, which have strengthened their transplant infrastructure in recent years.
Health authorities stated that the move aligns with the broader objective of enhancing critical care capacity, promoting organ donation awareness, and building a robust healthcare ecosystem within the region.
The operationalization of these centres is expected to improve survival outcomes, reduce financial burden on patients travelling outside the UT, and encourage greater participation in organ donation programmes.
