Historic moment for J&K: CM Omar Abdullah backs team in Ranji Trophy 2025–26 final

Kashmir , February 28,2026- Calling it a “very big moment” for the Union Territory, Omar Abdullah expressed pride as the Jammu & Kashmir cricket team reached the final of the Ranji Trophy 2025–26 for the first time in history.

Speaking on the sidelines of the summit clash, the Chief Minister said the team’s journey to the final marks a historic milestone for Jammu and Kashmir cricket.

“It is a very big moment for us to reach the final because this is the first time J&K has reached the final of the Ranji Trophy. Many people said that they could not go beyond this stage. But the way they performed in the first innings, we are expecting to win the trophy from here,” he said.

Lauding the team’s outstanding performance, Omar Abdullah also made a strong pitch for national recognition of J&K players. “I think it is time our players are invited or asked to play for the country. One or two of them definitely deserve to wear the Indian colours,” he added.

The Chief Minister’s remarks reflect growing optimism and pride back home, as the team stands on the brink of scripting history in India’s premier domestic cricket championship.
