DC inspects 10 MVA receiving station at GMC Srinagar

Srinagar, February 25,2026- Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Akshay Labroo on Tuesday inspected the commissioning of a 10 MVA Receiving Station dedicated to Government Medical College and its associated hospitals, aiming to significantly enhance uninterrupted and seamless power supply to critical healthcare facilities in the city.

The inspection was carried out in the presence of the Principal of Government Medical College Srinagar and senior officials from the Power Development Department and hospital administration.

The newly commissioned 10 MVA Receiving Station has been established to meet the growing electricity demand of GMC Srinagar and its associated hospitals, including SMHS Hospital, Super Speciality Hospital Srinagar, and Lal Ded Hospital.

Officials said the infrastructure upgrade will ensure reliable power supply to operation theatres, ICUs, diagnostic units, and other critical departments, reducing dependency on backup generators and preventing disruptions during peak load hours.

During the visit, DC Srinagar reviewed the technical specifications of the receiving station and directed concerned departments to maintain strict monitoring and regular maintenance to ensure sustained performance. He emphasized that uninterrupted electricity is vital for patient care, particularly in tertiary healthcare institutions catering to thousands of patients daily.

The Principal GMC highlighted that the commissioning of the 10 MVA Receiving Station marks a major step towards strengthening healthcare infrastructure in Srinagar. He said the enhanced power capacity will support advanced medical equipment, emergency services, and expansion of healthcare facilities.

The initiative reflects the administration’s commitment to upgrading essential infrastructure in the health sector and ensuring quality medical services for the people of Srinagar.
