Ganderbal, February 25,2026-In a significant stride toward sustainable rural development, the GOBARDhan (Galvanizing Organic Bio-Agro Resources Dhan) initiative has been successfully launched at Block Gund in District Ganderbal under the ambit of the Swachh Bharat Mission Grameen.
The initiative aims to transform cattle waste and organic waste into valuable resources such as clean energy and organic manure, reinforcing the vision of “waste to wealth.” By adopting scientific waste management practices, the project seeks to promote environmental sustainability while strengthening the rural economy.
Key Objectives of the GOBARDhan Initiative
- Scientific Waste Management: Systematic collection and processing of cattle dung and biodegradable waste to reduce environmental hazards.
- Clean Biogas Generation: Production of renewable biogas for local household and community use, reducing dependence on conventional fuels.
- Organic Manure Production: Conversion of processed waste into nutrient-rich organic manure to support sustainable agriculture.
The GOBARDhan model is more than a sanitation project. It represents a holistic approach toward rural empowerment by creating income-generating opportunities, improving village hygiene, and fostering a circular economy at the grassroots level.
Officials stated that the implementation of the project in Block Gund marks a milestone in strengthening decentralized waste management systems in Ganderbal. The initiative is expected to enhance livelihoods, reduce carbon footprints, and promote organic farming practices across the district.
With community participation at its core, the GOBARDhan project aligns with national efforts to achieve cleaner villages, renewable energy adoption, and long-term environmental sustainability
