Kashmir Ahead

Bhaderwah campus AI tool wins National Hackath

Bhaderwah, February 23,2026- In a major boost to innovation in the Union Territory, students, research scholars, and faculty members of the Department of Computer Science at the Bhaderwah Campus have earned national recognition for developing an advanced AI-based tourist rescue model designed to track missing tourists in hilly and mountainous regions.

The breakthrough innovation was showcased at the prestigious National Hackathon Innovathon 1.0, where the team’s project received widespread appreciation for its practical application in disaster management and search-and-rescue operations.

AI for Tourist Safety in Hilly Terrain

The AI model leverages geospatial mapping, predictive analytics, terrain behavior data, and real-time environmental inputs to assist authorities in locating missing trekkers and tourists in challenging landscapes such as the Bhaderwah Valley and other mountainous regions of Jammu & Kashmir.

With tourism steadily increasing in scenic destinations like Bhaderwah, often referred to as “Mini Kashmir,” the need for smart safety solutions has become more pressing. The AI-driven tool is expected to significantly reduce search time, optimize rescue resource deployment, and improve survival outcomes during emergencies.

Years of Research Behind the Innovation

The achievement builds upon years of dedicated research in Artificial Intelligence by the campus, particularly in healthcare and oncology-based predictive models. Faculty members noted that the department has consistently focused on AI for social good, and the missing tourist rescue model marks an important expansion into disaster response and public safety technology.

The success also reflects the growing research ecosystem at Bhaderwah Campus, where students are increasingly engaging in interdisciplinary innovation combining computer science, environmental data, and real-world problem-solving.

Inspired by AI Impact Summit 2026

The team credited the momentum generated by the recently held AI Impact Summit 2026 for inspiring young innovators to apply AI solutions to societal challenges. The summit served as a platform for brainstorming scalable, ethical, and community-focused AI applications.

Encouraged by the national recognition, students have expressed determination to further refine the model and collaborate with disaster management agencies and tourism departments for field implementation.

Strengthening Innovation in Jammu & Kashmir

This accomplishment not only highlights the technical capabilities of Bhaderwah Campus but also underscores Jammu & Kashmir’s emerging role in AI research, innovation, and technology-driven governance solutions.

As tourism continues to grow in the region’s high-altitude destinations, AI-powered tools like this could become vital in ensuring tourist safety, strengthening emergency response mechanisms, and reinforcing confidence among visitors.
