The event brought together scientists, progressive farmers, agri-entrepreneurs, startups, students and policymakers on a common platform to explore modern technologies, sustainable farming practices and emerging opportunities in the agri-business landscape.
‘Gongul-2026’ features exhibitions of improved crop varieties, high-density plantation models, precision farming tools, protected cultivation techniques, livestock innovations and value-addition technologies. Experts from various faculties demonstrated climate-resilient farming practices and digital solutions aimed at enhancing productivity and income generation.
University officials stated that the AgriTech Mela is designed to bridge the gap between research and field application by ensuring that innovations developed in laboratories reach farmers effectively. The mela also serves as a platform for knowledge exchange, technology transfer and farmer-scientist interaction.
Special sessions, live demonstrations and interactive workshops are being organised to educate farmers about government schemes, agri-startups, organic farming, horticulture advancements and sustainable resource management.
Officials emphasised that ‘Gongul-2026’ reflects SKUAST-Kashmir’s commitment to strengthening Jammu and Kashmir’s agricultural economy by fostering innovation, entrepreneurship and scientific interventions across sectors including horticulture, animal husbandry and fisheries.
The event is expected to further empower farmers, encourage youth participation in agribusiness and promote a resilient and technology-driven agricultural ecosystem in the Union Territory.
