Wool training launched for 35 women in Katra

Katra, February 11,2026: A 15-day skill development programme on wool products has been launched at Kakryal in Katra, benefiting 35 rural women from Reasi district. The initiative aims to promote self-employment and strengthen sustainable livelihood opportunities for women in the region.

The training programme is being organized by the Department of Social Welfare in collaboration with JKRLM’s UMEED project. It focuses on empowering rural women through skill enhancement in the production of woollen products.

During the programme, participants will receive hands-on training in operating knitting machines, designing patterns, and producing market-ready wool products. Officials stated that the initiative is part of broader efforts to promote women empowerment in Jammu & Kashmir and encourage entrepreneurship at the grassroots level.

The programme is expected to enhance income-generation opportunities for the trainees, enabling them to start their own ventures or join existing self-help groups (SHGs) under the JKRLM UMEED scheme.
