Poonch, Feburary 2,2026-People of Poonch district have welcomed the Union Budget, praising the special allocation aimed at strengthening the handloom and handicrafts sector, a key pillar of the local economy in the Peer Panjal region.
Artisans, weavers and community leaders said the budgetary support would help revive traditional livelihoods, provide sustainable income opportunities and preserve the rich cultural heritage of Jammu and Kashmir. They noted that enhanced focus on skill development, financial assistance and improved market access would benefit thousands of families dependent on traditional crafts.
Local representatives said the move would also bring relief to families affected after Operation Sindoor, helping them rebuild livelihoods through renewed economic activity in the handicrafts sector. “Support for artisans is support for our identity and economy,” they said.
Artisans expressed optimism that government initiatives such as training programmes, design innovation and wider market linkages would enable local products to reach national and international platforms. They added that the budget reflects a commitment to inclusive growth by empowering rural and border communities.
Residents described the Union Budget as development-oriented, stating that targeted investment in handloom and handicrafts would strengthen grassroots employment, reduce migration and promote self-reliance in the border district.
Overall, the people of Poonch said the renewed focus on traditional sectors would play a crucial role in economic revival, cultural preservation and long-term development of the region.
