Srinagar, January 29.2026- Kashmir Valley continued to experience severe winter chill as temperatures plunged across the region, with Sonamarg emerging as the coldest place at minus 11.2 degrees Celsius. Other higher reaches also reported sub-zero temperatures, intensifying the biting cold.
The Meteorological Department has issued advisories for residents to take precautions, especially in snow-bound and high-altitude areas, as frost and icy conditions prevail. Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam, and other tourist destinations witnessed foggy mornings and chilly evenings, impacting daily life and transport.
Local authorities have urged people, particularly the elderly and children, to avoid prolonged exposure to the cold and to use adequate heating arrangements. Tourism operators have advised visitors to carry warm clothing and be prepared for sudden weather changes.
The harsh winter spell, while challenging for residents, is also expected to boost winter tourism in Kashmir, attracting tourists to snow-covered landscapes and popular skiing destinations like Gulmarg and Sonamarg.
