Kashmir,January 24,2025-Officials said moderate to heavy snowfall was recorded in several parts of the Kashmir Valley, including Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Sonamarg, and higher reaches of Srinagar. The fresh spell of snow has brought temperatures down significantly, intensifying the cold wave but delighting visitors eager to experience Kashmir’s famed winters.
Dal Lake, partially frozen in some areas, witnessed heavy footfall as tourists enjoyed shikara rides amid falling snow. Many visitors were seen capturing photographs, sipping hot kahwa, and soaking in the scenic beauty of the lake surrounded by snow-clad houseboats and the Zabarwan hills.
Local tourism operators reported a sharp rise in hotel bookings and shikara rides following the snowfall. “This fresh snow has revived tourist interest. We are seeing good business after a slow period,” said a houseboat owner on Dal Lake.
Meanwhile, authorities have advised travelers to remain cautious, especially on hilly roads, as snowfall has affected traffic movement in some areas. Essential services remain functional, and road clearance operations are underway.
The renewed tourist influx is expected to provide a significant boost to the local economy, particularly for those dependent on winter tourism in the Valley.
