Srinagar, January 22,2026-To commemorate Phase-II of the 150 years of the national song “Vande Mataram”, the District Administration Srinagar, in collaboration with the Government College of Education (GCoE), Srinagar, organised a district-level event today at the GCoE campus.
The programme was presided over by Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Akshay Labroo. The event was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Aadil Fareed, SDM East Zubair Ahmad, Principal GCoE Prof. Seema Naaz, faculty members, and students from various degree colleges across the district.
Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner highlighted the timeless relevance and enduring significance of “Vande Mataram”, stating that the national song not only inspired India’s freedom struggle but continues to serve as a powerful symbol of unity, harmony and national pride. He observed that the song evokes reverence for the nation’s natural landscape—its mountains, rivers and land—which are regarded as life-giving and sacred elements shaping India’s identity.
The DC emphasised that such commemorative programmes aim to instil patriotism among the youth while encouraging them to understand and appreciate the country’s rich cultural and historical legacy. He noted that the 150-year commemoration offers an opportunity to reflect on the values of unity, sacrifice and freedom, inspiring younger generations to uphold the ideals of nationalism.
The Deputy Commissioner lauded the organisers and participants for conducting the event in a meaningful and impactful manner and also felicitated the participants for their contributions.
During the programme, students from various city colleges presented patriotic and national songs, adding cultural vibrancy and enthusiasm to the event.
Earlier, Principal GCoE Prof. Seema Naaz welcomed the dignitaries and participants, underscoring the vital role of educational institutions in commemorating the 150 years of the national song “Vande Mataram” and in nurturing values of patriotism and national consciousness among students.
