J&K LG Manoj Sinha stresses sports must remain free from political influence

Jammu,January 18,2026-Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday emphasized that sports must be kept completely away from politics, asserting that merit, transparency, and fair play should form the foundation of Jammu and Kashmir’s sporting ecosystem.

Addressing a gathering of sports officials, athletes, and administrators, the Lieutenant Governor stressed the need to strengthen grassroots sports infrastructure and ensure fair, transparent selection systems to nurture young talent across the Union Territory. He said sports should serve as a platform for unity, discipline, and character building, not political interference.

LG Manoj Sinha highlighted that the administration is committed to building a future-ready sports ecosystem in J&K, with a focus on modern infrastructure, access to quality coaching, and equal opportunities for athletes from rural and remote areas. He underlined the importance of identifying talent at the grassroots level and providing sustained institutional support.

Calling for professionalism in sports governance, the Lieutenant Governor said that selection processes must be purely performance-based, free from favoritism or external influence. He added that a credible and athlete-centric system is essential to restore trust and motivate youth to pursue sports as a serious career option.

The Lieutenant Governor also noted that sports play a vital role in youth engagement, social harmony, and nation-building, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir. He urged sports bodies and officials to work collectively to create an enabling environment that allows athletes to compete at national and international levels.

The administration, he said, will continue to invest in sports infrastructure development, including stadiums, playfields, and training facilities, while promoting inclusivity and excellence in sports across the UT.
