Kashmir, January 15,2026- Jammu and Kashmir is witnessing an intense cold wave, with Jammu reeling under unprecedented cold conditions while Kashmir remains in the grip of a deep freeze, disrupting normal life across the Union Territory.
In Jammu region, temperatures have dipped sharply over the past few days, with chilly winds and dense morning fog adding to the discomfort. Residents reported unusually cold conditions for this time of the season, forcing people to remain indoors during early morning and late evening hours. The sudden drop in temperature has led to increased demand for heaters and warm clothing, while daily routines and outdoor activities have been affected.
Meanwhile, the Kashmir Valley continues to experience severe winter conditions, with sub-zero temperatures recorded in several areas. Srinagar and other parts of the Valley have witnessed freezing nights, leading to frozen water supply lines and icy roads in many localities. The prolonged cold spell has intensified during the ongoing Chillai Kalan, the harshest 40-day period of winter in Kashmir.
Rural and higher-altitude areas of the Valley remain the worst affected, with snowfall and frost impacting transportation, agriculture and daily life. Authorities have advised people to take necessary precautions to avoid cold-related ailments, especially children, elderly persons and those suffering from chronic illnesses.
Power demand has surged across both Jammu and Kashmir due to the biting cold, while the administration is working to ensure uninterrupted electricity and water supply. Meteorological officials have indicated that cold wave conditions are likely to persist, urging citizens to stay updated with weather advisories.
The prevailing cold spell has once again highlighted the climatic contrast between Jammu and Kashmir regions, even as both face the severity of winter in different forms.
