Jammu, January 11, 2026-Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha today chaired the 9th Executive Council Meeting of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU), Rajouri, at Lok Bhavan, underscoring the pivotal role of universities in shaping India’s future through innovation-driven and skill-oriented education.
Addressing the Executive Council, the Lieutenant Governor stressed the need to “educate tomorrow and create learning spaces in the university for the next generation.” He said that by shaping young minds, the nation’s brighter future can be ensured, adding that the future of India begins on university campuses.
“The future of the nation begins in the University campus. We must reimagine education for a brighter tomorrow and design curriculum that inspires innovation and cutting-edge research,” LG Manoj Sinha said.
The meeting was attended by Prof. Jawaid Iqbal, Vice-Chancellor, BGSBU; Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu; Prof. Nilofer Khan, Vice-Chancellor, University of Kashmir; Dr. Mandeep K. Bhandari, Principal Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor; Shri Ram Niwas Sharma, Secretary, Higher Education Department; Shri Abhishek Sharma, Deputy Commissioner Rajouri and Registrar, BGSBU, along with other distinguished members of the Executive Council.
During the meeting, the Executive Council discussed key academic and administrative issues and accorded in-principle approval to several agenda items. The Lieutenant Governor directed the University to undertake a comprehensive review of its existing curriculum, with a strategic vision to transform BGSBU into a centre of excellence.
Emphasising skill-centric education and institutional accountability, LG Manoj Sinha called for the introduction of attractive and industry-aligned courses in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and emerging digital technologies, keeping in view the evolving career aspirations of students.
The Lieutenant Governor also highlighted the University’s responsibility towards tribal areas, directing it to identify localized challenges and develop innovative solutions while ensuring enhanced educational opportunities for tribal students.
He further emphasised the need to increase student enrolment, modernize administrative operations through the complete implementation of the e-office system, and ensure regular governance by holding Executive Council meetings every six months. Directions were also issued for conducting the University’s convocation and for encouraging active student participation in flagship awareness programmes of the Government of India and the UT administration.
The meeting also deliberated on important matters related to admissions, recruitment, introduction of new academic programmes, faculty career advancement, and infrastructure development, including Nursing Colleges, aimed at improving the overall quality and functioning of the University.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Jawaid Iqbal presented various agenda items before the Executive Council for approval and ratification.
On the occasion, LG Manoj Sinha also laid the e-foundation stone for several major infrastructure projects at BGSBU, including a Girls’ Hostel for Nursing students (G+1), a new Main Gate, an Indoor Games Complex under PM-USHA (Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan), and a 1 MW Rooftop Solar Power Plant, reinforcing the University’s commitment to sustainable and holistic development.
