Kashmir,January 7,2026-The National Medical Commission has withdrawn its earlier permission that allowed students of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Medical College to be shifted to other medical institutes, creating uncertainty among students and their families.
According to official sources, the decision comes after a fresh review of the matter by the apex medical education regulator. With the withdrawal of permission, students enrolled at SMVD Medical College will now have to continue their studies at the same institution, unless further directions are issued by the NMC.
The earlier approval to shift students was granted in view of certain infrastructural and administrative concerns. However, the latest order reverses that decision, though detailed reasons behind the withdrawal are yet to be officially communicated.
The development has triggered concern among students, who were expecting relocation to other recognised medical colleges to avoid any disruption in their academic progress. Student representatives have urged authorities to ensure that academic standards, faculty availability, and clinical exposure at SMVD Medical College meet NMC norms.
Officials said the situation is being closely monitored and further clarity is expected once detailed guidelines or clarifications are issued by the National Medical Commission.
The issue once again brings focus on regulatory oversight, infrastructure preparedness, and student welfare within medical institutions, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir.
