Srinagar, December 29,2025— The India Meteorological Department has forecast a spell of rain and snowfall across the Kashmir Valley starting December 30, bringing a change in prevailing dry and cold conditions.
According to the IMD, a fresh western disturbance is expected to impact Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in light to moderate rain in lower areas and snowfall in higher reaches of the Valley. Some parts may also witness intermittent precipitation over the following days.
Meteorological officials said that the weather system could lead to cloudy skies, a dip in temperatures, and icy road conditions, particularly in mountainous regions. The fresh spell of precipitation coincides with Chillai Kalan, the harshest 40-day winter period in Kashmir, which is typically marked by intense cold and snowfall.
Authorities have advised travellers, commuters, and tourists to remain cautious, especially while moving through higher-altitude passes and snow-prone routes. Farmers and orchardists have also been asked to take necessary precautions in view of the expected weather change.
The IMD has stated that weather conditions will be monitored closely, and further updates will be issued as the system progresses.
