Katra,December 28,2025 — Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha on Saturday announced that India’s first International Museum dedicated to Goddess Vaishno Devi will be constructed in Katra, marking a major step towards preserving and showcasing the region’s rich spiritual and cultural legacy.
The proposed museum will serve as a comprehensive centre highlighting the spiritual, cultural and historical significance of Mata Vaishno Devi, one of the most revered pilgrimage sites in the country. According to the Lieutenant Governor, the museum will not only celebrate the religious heritage associated with the shrine but also promote research, learning and cultural exchange.
The International Vaishno Devi Museum is envisioned as a world-class institution that will document legends, traditions, artefacts and historical narratives linked to the shrine and the wider region of Jammu and Kashmir. It will also provide visitors with deeper insights into the evolution of faith, art and architecture connected with the pilgrimage.
LG Manoj Sinha said the initiative will further strengthen Katra’s identity as a global spiritual destination, attracting pilgrims, scholars and tourists from across India and abroad. The project is also expected to boost heritage tourism, generate employment opportunities and support the local economy.
Officials said detailed planning and execution will be undertaken to ensure the museum reflects international standards while preserving the sanctity and essence of the sacred site. The project aligns with the administration’s broader vision of promoting cultural heritage, tourism development and sustainable growth in Jammu and Kashmir.
