Jammu, December 27,2025: The Centre has approved the Dulhasti Hydel Project on the Chenab River, marking a significant step towards strengthening hydropower generation and energy security in Jammu and Kashmir.
The project is expected to harness the vast hydropower potential of the Chenab basin, contributing to clean and renewable energy production while supporting the region’s growing power needs. Officials said the approval will also boost local employment, infrastructure development, and economic activity in the project area.
The Dulhasti Hydel Project is part of the government’s broader strategy to tap renewable energy resources in the Himalayan region and reduce dependence on conventional power sources. Once operational, the project is expected to enhance grid stability and support sustainable development goals.
Authorities added that environmental safeguards and technical assessments will be strictly followed during implementation to ensure minimal ecological impact while maximizing long-term benefits for the region.
